Publication Summary

Disclosed herein is a surrounding seal repair method for super narrow peripheral (Gakubuchi) cell, which seal width is narrow as 0.5 mm and glass cut on the seal is inevitable. When narrow seal of 0.5 mm width is dispensed, neck down (constricted part) or void (discontinued part) of seal are easily occurred. In order to cut the glass close to pixel edge, this neck down or void are cause of liquid crystal leakage after glass cut or grinding. The combination of pouring UV curable resin through additional pinhole and penetration stopping structure enables simple process and avoids failure on pixel area.

Seal Repair Method for Super Narrow Peripheral (Gakubuchi) Cell

Disclosed herein is a surrounding seal repair method for
super narrow peripheral (Gakubuchi) cell, which seal width is narrow
as 0.5 mm and glass cut on the seal is inevitable.  When narrow seal
of 0.5 mm width is dispensed, neck down (constricted part) or void
(discontinued part) of seal are easily occurred.  In order to cut the
glass close to pixel edge, this neck down or void are cause of liquid
crystal leakage after glass cut or grinding.  The combination of
pouring UV curable resin through additional pinhole and penetration
stopping structure enables simple process and avoids failure on pixel
area.

Figure shows plane view and cross sectional view drawing
which includes UV resin stopper structure and repairing methods.
Seal repair is performed by utilizing UV resin stopper structure (1)
in order to avoid resin penetration onto pixel.  Narrow surrounding
seal (2) is apt to have void (5) or neck down (6) by seal material or
dispenser machine fluctuation.  To repair these failure mode, UV
(ultra violet) curable resin (3) is used for its easiness of
penetration into failed seal portion and UV light cure process.  Seal
can be cut after UV cure as shown on glass cut line (4) to fabricate
super narrow peripheral (Gakubuchi) cell.  The lower drawing shows
two method of repair: 1) UV resin pouring through glass hole (7),
which treated by laser irradiation, 2) UV resin pouring through seal
pinhole (8)...
