Method for Usability Enhanced and Intelligent channel broadcast / television system for searching content/serial/movie/show type being broadcast across television channels .
Introduction
Today's customers and viewers want more choice and more control. They want a wide selection of choices, want right kind of selection at any given time and have little patience to wait for it. With the revolution of cable television across the world, customers/viewers are presented with hundreds of channels most of which are being broadcasted around the clock. On an average when the viewer switches on the television set at any given point of time he/she is unaware of the fact that which channel is broadcasting the type of content/serial/movie/show that he/she wants to view at that particular time. The existing methods for the viewer is to get hold of a channel guide to view what channel plays what kind of content/serial/movie/show at that particular time, which seems to be pretty primitive. The other method is that he/she browses/scans through each and every channel to understand the content being broadcast and likewise make a decision to view it or not, which is pretty cumbersome especially when the number of channel being telecast are high. The proposed new system not only enables the viewers of enhanced usability, ease and convince to make their selection but also gives a competitive edge to vendor's implementing the idea.
The idea is that, lets say if the viewer wishes to view a comical/action/family/sports type of content/serial/movie/show at any given point of time , he/she should able to likewise send a command/signal to the television set which would process all the channels that are being broadcasted and present him/her with the search results, very much similar to searching for a particular information on search engines available on internet. In other words the idea is to implement the search (on the fly) on all the channels being broadcasted ( taking the input from the user) and presenting the user with the search result, from where he/she can make a choice. The proposed solution makes use of broadcast Datacasting* technology to achieve it. The solution is more prevelent to the high definition television (HDTV)/ digital television industry which is expected to be a defacto in another decade or so , though the solution can also to applicable to the analog television.
Advantages over the existing methods
1
The proposed solution is quick and offers sophisticated, enhanced usability and ease to the end user. The solution translates to viewer convenience and increased viewer satisfaction apart from giving the television companies implementing such feature a competitive edge. Though the idea can be implemented on analog television sets , its ease of implementation and usage will be far more effective in digital television industry which is more advanced and is becoming more popular.
