Reducing Emissions Associated with Acceleration Events at Intersections Through Use of Existing Civil Infrastructure
The core idea of the invention is to provide information to motor vehicle operators enabling the small accelerations or decelerations required to traverse an intersection with fewer emissions. Unlike existing solutions, the described invention requires no updates to the traffic signal or motor vehicle components. Rather, the described invention makes use of traffic cameras monitoring the status of existing traffic signals (such as stoplights), and the GPS capabilities in networked smart phones and vehicle navigation systems to communicate traffic signal status information between a central processing server and multiple vehicles as they approach a monitored intersection.
The approach allows for a motor vehicle operator to traverse a given intersection with less likelihood of stopping. This creates lower overall emissions from the vehicle for a given intersection.
Main Components: The Traffic Camera Setup Process, the Speed Indicator Processing, and the End User Process.
The Traffic Camera Setup process consists of a computing platform that has access to real time
