Method To Improve Instant Messenger Task Management

Disclosed are methods to improve and enhance instant messenger based task management solutions. Tasks may be assigned within a collaboration tool or a project management tool.

The invention has advantages over those known in the art. The advanced features described herein enable a project manager to more effectively manage tasks within an instant messaging solution. Furthermore, the proposed invention may save time for a project manager by permitting them to manage tasks where it is more convenient, within the stream of a conversation, rather than taking notes and managing tasks later using known task management software.

Message Prioritization

It is common for a project manager to receive multiple communications near concomitantly and answer the communications as they complete the previously initiated communications. This FIFO (First In / First Out) method is sub-optimal as the most urgent communications are not provided with prioritization. A system is needed to prioritize instant messaging conversations such that the most important messages may be serviced by a project manager or like individual without requiring the user to review all incoming communications. As such, the proposed method prioritizes conversations such that messages containing a keyword matching a task or from an individual assigned to a task are given presentation priority over other messages. Simple text matching may be used to select messages matching a task. Known methods, disclosed in other disclosures or the referenced art, may be used to match an individual to a task and likewise the task priority and deadline.
