Publication Summary

Today when a user reviews digital media like an online film or a video game, that review can come from an individual who has never even watched the film or played the game they are reviewing. Weighted reviews would enhance the user community, and provide more value to the reviews provided by individuals who have watched a film in its entirety, or played an entire video game all the way through. User reviewed content is going to be huge in the future - a service that is nascent or non-existent in the video game console world today - but the environment is ripe for development as the online services of Wii (TM), PS3 (TM), and Xbox (TM) all develop and grow - the digital identity of the game player today has grown incredibly, on the Xbox 360 (TM) especially, Xbox live offers you a gamertag, an avatar, and a set of achievements that are associated with your digital character for the rest of your life - your gaming history is there in stunning detail. This holds true on the PS3 as well as they develop HOME (TM) and provide Trophies, and on the Wii with their "Mii" avatars. The ability for users to provide a weighted digital review would be a great way to improve the user experience on all video game platforms, as well as on subscription movie services like Netflix (TM), or even digital books with the success of Amazon's (TM) digital reader.

Almost all modern video games support a set of stored properties that are associated with a user 's profile. On all 3 of the big consoles, Wii, PS3, and 360, this is true today. Streaming movie subscription services are the same. Netflix (TM) knows when you have watched a movie on your computer or on your video game console, and you can see how much of the movie you watched, and it saves the completed state to your user profile. This complete or incomplete property does not exist for digital books as of today , but its something that Amazon (TM) and other companies could implement through electronic devices like Kindle (TM).

This disclosure envisions that the "completed state" property attribute associated with the user's profile is connected to any user submitted review. Reviews have two states: "incomplete" and "complete". The capacity to provide a weighted review does not exist today, and the association of the completed state of the digital media in relationship to the user submitted reviews will allow for a deeper and more useful review system. This disclosure focuses on giving users the ability to provide a more trusted review if they have a property associated with the reviewed media that is in a state of complete , in comparison to a review that is in a state of incomplete.

This disclosure is also focused on how user data is applied to a larger user community . This disclosure's focus is on the application of a completion property a...
