Method for effective real time participation and priority based categorization of chat participants in a conference chat communication of instant messaging system .
Background:
The electronic workplace of today is filled with many conveniences to allow employees to collaborate with each other. Some workplace environments allow employees ready access to each other through real time communications known as "Instant Messaging". Instant messaging
provides an excellent substitute for short telephone conversations in which minimal to moderate
amounts of information are to be related between conversant.
Typically, with instant messaging (IM) applications, a user (hereon referred to as the "first user") signs-on or connects to an Instant Messaging Server. While the first user is signed-on and wishes to communicate with another signed-on user (hereon referred to as the "second user"), he/she may initiate an instant messaging session by selecting the name of the second user from a list of all the users currently signed-on to the system.
The communication between users in an Instant messaging environment happens in a real time. So for eg. when user initiates a chat conversation with another user, the message (SIP/SIMPLE etc.) is sent across to each other in a real time mode on the established channel.
In addition to one-on-one conversations, instant messaging can also be used for multi-
participant instant messaging
conference would be multiple members of a company's sales team discussing sales strategy or a multiple members of a volunteer group discussing the plans for a volunteering event. Typically, in these cases, a user can start a chat session between the participants and invites them to join the session by selecting their names from a participant list and sending invitations. Then, all the
participants can carry on a conversation by typing text messages in a graphical conversation
dialog window that runs on each user's personal computer ("PC"). Messages sent by any user are visible to all participants within each participant's graphical conversation window. At any time, a
participant may "drop-out" of a conference by clicking on a "Leave Conference" button or by
simply closing the graphical dialog window.
One of the other prevalent method of group chat is a "moderated chat system" where in the one of the user is a moderator of the group chats happening. The moderator has the control of what control to be provided to each participants in the group chat as well as controlling the message flow and visibility among all the users.
The other types of group communication which is widely used are "Persistent chat systems" which provides a mechanism of having a group communication based on Skills or specialized Topic, where in the participants are able to discuss on certain qualified discussion. The user can
post the messages in a real time which can be viewed by all the other participants at any later
